Pembury Scout Group

Welcome to the Pembury Scout Group information page!

We are a thriving group with both a Cub Pack & Scout Troop that meet weekly during the School terms. There are varied programmes for each section & many extra activities in addition to the weekly meetings including swimming, cycling, sailing, canoeing, days trips & of course camping. Scouting is all about making friends, having fun & learning some new skills along the way. Read on to find out more about what we do & there are details on how to contact us at the end.

Pembury Cub Pack meets on Thursday evenings at the Guide & Scout Headquarters in the village from 7.15pm to 8.30pm. Cub Scouts are young people usually aged between eight & ten-and-a-half years old.

Activities include games, sports, camping skills, craft sessions, cooking & much more. In addition to the weekly meetings the cubs have already taken part in 2 weekend camps at different local sites, been canoeing, attended a swimming gala & there are more adventures planned for autumn 2004. There are many badges & awards the Cubs can work towards if they wish to in many subjects from hobbies to canoeing & camping skills to Entertaining.

Pembury ‘Magna’ Scout Troop meets on Wednesday evenings from 7pm to 9pm in the Guide & Scout headquarters. Scouts are usually young people aged between ten-and-a-half and fourteen years old.

At the beginning of each term the Scouts decide what activities they would like to do & the leaders then put together a programme around what the young people would like. Recent programmes have included survival skills, quizzes, cooking, challenges, pioneering, outdoor games nights, sailing & Patrol activity evenings where the Scouts bring along their own activities. The weekly meetings also include games & time to work towards the many badges & awards on offer to those that are interested.

There is also an active programme in addition to the weekly meetings. In 2004 there has been a survival skills weekend where the young people sleep out in a shelter they have constructed, a week long summer camp to Dorset & in the autumn there is a multi-activity weekend planned. Rock climbing & dry slope skiing are also being arranged.

The Explorer Scouts are usually young people aged fourteen to eighteen years. There is an active unit based in Tunbridge Wells that Scouts from Troops across the town feed into. They have a very varied programme of activities chosen by the members. There are young people from Pembury involved in this section.

The Leaders

As well as the young people the group also has a team of adults who help in many ways from assisting with meetings to help maintain the headquarters building. We are always looking for new people to come and join us and share in the fun & enjoyment. There are many ways to get involved including helping with the weekly meetings, maintaining some of the equipment or assisting with activities in which you are skilled.
