Pembury Bowls Club

Lawn bowls has been played in Pembury for quite some time as photographs exist (such as the one reproduced here) showing games being played at the Camden Arms at the turn of the century. There was also another green at the Royal Oak on the ground more or less where Waterfield House now stands. What happened to these two clubs seems to have been lost in the mist of time but if anyone can enlighten me I shall be very grateful.

The Pembury Bowls Club, as we know it today, was formed in 1929 and to celebrate the 70th anniversary of this the Club is proud to announce that the President and Council of the Kent County Bowling Association will be bringing a team on Wednesday 30th June for a game to commence at 2.30pm. Spectators will be welcome and providing the weather is favourable a memorable day is expected.

Efforts are being made to compile a history of the Club so that a booklet can be published next year. If there is anyone in the village with old photographs or memorabilia of bowls in Pembury during the last 100 years and would allow me to have access to or copies of them then please get in touch with me on 824914.
